Everyday Seminary
Every semester we open one course to our wider church community, giving people the opportunity to engage in weekly learning with The Way College. If you are interested in The Way College or engaging in theological studies, this is an opportunity to go deeper in your learning, while just getting a taste of what being a full-time student could be like.
About the book of Acts:
The book of Acts is the second of a two-volume story told by the medical doctor named Luke, a travelling companion to the Apostle Paul, and the most prolific writer of the New Testament. Luke opens the second volume saying, “In the first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day He was taken up …” (1:1-2), referring to what he narrates in the Gospel bearing his name. Implying that in Acts Luke is narrating what Jesus continued (and continues) to do after His ascension to the throne.
The subject of both volumes is the same—Jesus; Jesus and His kingdom. The first volume about how Jesus inaugurated His kingdom in the world; the second volume about how Jesus continues to advance His kingdom in the world, “in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth” (1:8). In his first volume, Luke emphasizes that Jesus did and taught all He did and taught by the power of the Holy Spirit. In his second volume, Luke emphasizes that Jesus continues to do and teach all He does and teaches by the power of the Holy Spirit; He breathes the Spirit upon His disciples, enabling them to spread His word and then join Him in building His church, communities centred in Him, scattered all over the Roman Empire.
In this course, we will follow the story of how this all happens, and become even more aware of what Jesus is doing in our time, and the role we are to play in the power of the Spirit.
